DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Notes from the Director sent in email February 10th

Hello Hello!

Here is the list of all of our upcoming fundraisers!

Saturday, Feb. 18th - Music to Midnight! This is a rehearse-a-thon where the students rehearse from 6:00pm - 12:00am. Guard and Drumline will have a chance to perform a section of their show for the group and the band students will play some of their festival pieces for everyone. Students are welcome to spend the night afterwards however it is not mandatory. Some students bring in their favorite video games or board games and most of the time the kids stay up just talking and bonding. We are in need of parent volunteers to help with supervision (1 man and 1 woman for each 2 hour shift between 12:00am and 6:00am) for the sleep over or to bring in breakfast goodies for the next morning. Students can be picked up at 8:00am the next morning. Students are tasked to find loving individuals who will sponsor them for the rehearsal. All money raised will go into your son/daughter's individual account for future trips. A permission slip and forms for the rehearse-a-thon will be going home with your student on Tuesday. Permission slips must be signed if your son/daughter would like to spend the night.

Thursday, February 23rd - Rubio's Fundraiser! This is an easy fundraiser to participate in. Flyers will be going home with your son/daughter on Friday, February 17th or you can print them from our website under the fundraiser tab. Send them out to all of your friends in East County and have them go to Rubio's on the 23rd. 20% of their purchase will be donated to the program! It's just that easy!

Thursday, March 8th - Panda Express Fundraiser! Same idea as the Rubio's fundraiser. Flyers will be handed out the week before or can be printed from our website. 20% of all purchases will be donated to the program!

Thursday, March 22nd - Estrada Fundraiser! Same idea as the last two fundraisers! 20% of all purchases will be donated to the program!

The restaurant fundraisers only work if EVERYONE gets involved! I would like to encourage all of you to hand out flyers to your friends, family, coworkers, fellow church members, or friendly neighbors. There is no selling necessary and everyone gets a good meal that helps out our program.

Thank you all for your support in our students!

Notes from the Director sent in email January 25th

Hello,

With the beginning of a new semester I wanted to send a check in email to let everyone know some of our up and coming events. Drumline and Winterguard are in full swing right now prepping for their competition season. The IMC Leadership team and myself have quite a few fundraising opportunities coming up. Our hope is that we can have a higher attendance of support at all of our events. (for example: drumline goes to guard shows, guard goes to festivals, and band goes to drumline shows) There is so much talent bursting in our program that it's time the entire group can see what each other does. If you know of any other events (piano recitals, solo festivals, or even sports events) that your son/ daughter is in, please email me with the details and I would be happy to share the information with our students so they can have their own rallying team.

Our Santee after school programs are going great! Right now we have about 45 students in the programs at Chet and Carlton Hills with plans to expand to our other schools (Rio Seco, PROSPECT, and Carlton Oaks) in the future. I have talked with the students about joining me for some of the classes if they are interested and have time. Mondays and Tuesdays Chet F. Harritt has classes from 2:45 - 3:30, Carlton Hills has classes from 2:30 - 3:15 on Wednesdays, and 2:15 - 3:00 on Thursdays. If your son/ daughter is interested in helping out with the classes please fill out the permission slips that will be going home with your students tomorrow and I will make a schedule based off of interest.

I have contacted our Lakeside Middle School and Parkway Middle School. I am hoping to bring some alumni of those schools to talk with the students about West Hills and the many programs and advantages our school has. Once dates and times are finalized, permission slips will be going home with a small number of students. If you are available on the days chosen we would really appreciate having 1-2 volunteers carpool the students to and from the school. We're looking at the end of February (right before freshmen orientation) but again it depends on the Middle Schools.

And finally, we are in the swing of basketball season. It seems fitting that we keep this tradition of support in the Blue and Black Brigade and play for more teams then just football. I will need volunteers to play for the following basketball dates:
Tuesday, February 7th 4:00 - 9:00 (Girls)
Friday, February 10th 5:00 - 10:00 (Girls and Boys)
Tuesday, February 14th 4:00 - 9:00 (Girls)
For a pep band we don't need the entire band to play so I'm asking that students volunteer for only two of the events as part of their performance grade.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, February 16th for our next parent meeting. We will be meeting at 6:00 in the band room. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at cpate@guhsd.net.
